Dance Roller Skating Patterns

These dance-skating diagrams are cool, and look pretty accessible. I think notation like this could be useful for describing tango dance, although I am not exactly sure what the codes mean. My own notation evolves, but is not systematic.

If anyone can explain figure skating codes, I would be grateful for a reply in the comments link, below.

Yes, I know a little bit about figure skating notation (I tried ice dancing for awhile). The F's and B's are Forward and Back and the I's and O's indicate the edge of the blade you are on (inside-outside), while an X means cross. I have the book with all the patterns indicated if you are interested. Thanks for the lesson last night at CM - fun!

Hi Shelley,

Knowing what I and O means is really helpful. What is the book called? Maybe I can find it in the library.

And, do you know what the code means where it has an S with an arrow through it and then a B or an F? Does that mean Sideways to Front?

Joe

The Siesta Tango pattern must be roller skating, not ice skating, so I don't know what the s with arrow is. The book I have is the U.S. Figure Skating Association Rule Book. B is back; F is forward; XB is cross behind. I'll xerox the tango stuff for you.

Hey Shelley,

I got the photocopies you sent from the figure skating guide book. I think it arrived a while ago, but I just opened it today. I really love it. The descriptions of each figure are so concise. It's a good job of technical writing.

Thanks so much! Hope to see you on the dance floor soon.
