Roberto Goyeneche singing at a concert

Roberto Goyeneche is my favorite tango singer. In my opinion, he was even better than Gardel or Rivero. His voice was expressive, murky, intense, and addictive. His interpretation was extraordinary.

The bandoneon player in the footage is no other than famous Nestor Marconi.

Hi Yana! Thanks for finding the Goyenache video. I like him too. I also like his protege, Adriana Varela, who inherited some parts of his murky expressiveness. The creativity and emotion of his singing really grabs me, but whenever someone plays Goyenache at a milonga I don't enjoy trying to dance to him, because his performances are rhythmically unpredictable and one feels like all attention should go to the singer, and nothing is left for dancing with another person. That's my experience. I know some people who like it, though.

Joe, Adriana Varela is my favorite female tango singer hands down. Regarding dancing, I haven't danced to Goyeneche yet, but I think I would love to dance to it if I have a partner who understands/appreciates his music. :-)
